Nocturne to the Victoria Harbour》
for Chinese Orchestra 中樂隊 [6']
(Premiered by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra
As the title suggests, the music portrays a night scene of Hong Kong’s Victoria harbour. Crossing the harbour in a ferry, you can feel the breeze brushing your skin, and you cannot help feeling captivated by this charming harbour scene at night. The music opens with wave after wave surging in from afar. It is followed by the theme which consists of different elements that slowly bring the music to its climax before it comes to a brief close. Written in 2000, this piece was premièred by music director Yan Hui-chang conducting the members of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, and was awarded Bronze in the 'Xinyi Cup', granted by the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture of China and the China Nationalities Orchestra Society for distinctive works for Chinese orchestra by young composers in 2014.

《虎虎生威 Year of the Tiger》
for Double Percussionists & Chinese Chamber Orchestra
(Commissioned by Ding Yi Music Co. Ltd.

“Jiu” is a Taoist sacrificial ceremony, while “Cheung Chau Da Jiu Festival” is a unique rural festival in Hong Kong. The origin of the festival is that in the 18th century the island of Cheung Chau was devastated by a plague and infiltrated by pirates until local fishermen brought an image of the god Pak Tai to the island. Nowadays, Cheung Chau Da Jiu Festival, or namely “Cheung Chau Bun Festival”, draws tens of thousands of local and overseas tourists every year, is staged to mark the Eighth day of the Fourth Month, in the Chinese calendar. The weeklong event includes Taoist ceremonies and music, a parade, lion dances, drum beating and an exciting Bun Scrambling Competition. This piece is commissioned by Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble in 2018 with sponsorship from CASH Music Fund.

《萬壑圖 Mountainscapes》
for Percussion & Chinese Orchestra
(Commissioned by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra
Chinese literati of all ages were avid travelers who often spent time amidst China's bounteous landscape. That is why viewing Chinese ink landscape painting is like being on the scene, in harmony with nature. This composition, Mountainscapes, is in two movements: the first, Thousands of Rocks and Myriads of Valleys, describes the magnificent panorama of high, rolling mountains and deep, meandering valleys that billow and overlap into the far distance. The second section continues with peaks that reach up to the sky, to where the fairyland is. The second movement, Eternal Spring, describes the greenery in the mountains that is brimming with life. Both movements close with the reverberating sound of the Temple Bowl, signaling that everything settles back in nature. The solo is a fine mixture of Chinese and Western percussions, with the characteristic timbres of metal, wood and skin – materials used for percussion instruments – continuing to cross over and vibrate. The music is commissioned by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and premiered with percussion soloist Chau Chin-tung at the 'Majestic Drums' concert in 2020.

《海之歌 Song of the Sea》
for (Large) Chinese Orchestra
(Commissioned by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra
Composed in 2010, Song of the Sea presents a series of sea pictures. The music begins with a quiet scene of the sea, and then it grows up into gigantic heavy seas. A twisting of mood follows, it becomes a lyrical barcarolle which is actually an ode to the sea. This piece is an overture to the musical theatre The Eight Immortals’ Adventures, a production by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in December 2010. The music also tells what the story will be, and offers a thread which will link the entire musical structure into a coherent whole.
